The following are some excellent resources that have provided great tips for planning a wedding:
- Public Library – this is one of the largest sources of information on planning a wedding. It includes a variety of books, magazines, tabloids, videos, VHS cassette tapes, and DVD’s. In addition, it offers access to the Internet, which offers you an endless amount of information. We recommend you check out our website section on “Wedding Planning - Websites”.
- Telephone Directory - every community’s telephone directory Yellow Pages lists a variety of products & services associated with wedding planning and products/services. We suggest you use the library as one of numerous sources in planning your wedding. Example: Some of the best wedding cakes are made by individuals working out of their homes, and are not listed in the telephone book, either in the White or Yellow Pages. We suggest you use the “Greetings!…from Debbie” Wedding Planner as a primary resource, as we have checked out our participating advertising sponsors and highly recommend them. We also suggest you keep your ears and eyes open for recommendations from friends/family.
- Internet – this has recently become a tremendous resource in planning weddings. You can access the web for research and distribution of information, and it is quick and FREE! To assist you with in distributing your wedding information we suggest you develop your own personal web page. We recommend you check out our website section on “Wedding Planning - Personal Web Page”.
- Mothers & Sisters – we recommend communicating with any and all those that have recently been involved with a wedding, whether in the planning of it or personally participating in the wedding. One of the best sources regarding wedding planning is your mother. Your mother probably has attended the weddings of her friends and relatives children, and can compare what is new and trendy in today’s weddings, as compared to that of her wedding of yesteryear. Mothers can be an invaluable resource, as they give mature opinions on what is tasteful, acceptable and moral. Sisters and close girlfriends can also be an excellent resource, because they have also attended/participated in recent weddings. We suggest you meet with these individuals and review your wedding plan outline with them. Ask them for their feedback/suggestions for developing your wedding plan. Keep track of this information in a notebook or wedding planning computer file.
- Bridal Fairs – are usually held annually in January or February and serve a purpose. They assemble variety of products and services for those in the initial stages of planning a wedding. That’s where the “Greetings!…from Debbie” Wedding Planner is a very helpful tool. It has a long shelf life, and will be used throughout the entire year. Secondly, it allows you to access information on wedding products and services at your convenience. We suggest you attend your local bridal fair, usually promoted by the local Mall or Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee. In addition, we suggest that you attend a bridal fair in a far away metropolitan area, such as Minneapolis – St. Paul, as this will give you a basis for comparing the trends in wedding products & services and you will be able to get a better feel for price comparisons.
- Wedding Specialty Stores – when planning your wedding you may have a need for some special items that you just can’t find at the more traditional retails stores. We suggest you visit a specialty store, one that offers a variety of unique wedding products. If you do not see a specific item in the store, ask them if they can order it for you. Sometimes you can get better pricing because they do not have to inventory it.
Finally, be sure to share your plans with the individual officiating the ceremony, as they have the final approval of what can/can’t be included in your wedding ceremony.
